We had inadvertently rented a boat that could hold probably a dozen people. This is the bamboo support on the side, which presumably could keep photo-happy tourist from falling out in anything less than a hilarious manner.
The approaching boat is a river salesman. There are many such boats, selling incense, knickknacks, beads, etc.
