These are the punch cards on the loom in Varanasi. Each one cycles through with one stroke of the loom, dictating the design of the weaving. Most of these cards are hand-punched and sewn together in giant snakes. The threads on the left are feeding into the loom, only part of the massive number of them needed for a single weaving.
